Sonoluminescence

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with a rubber ball and really bounced it hard on the ground? It makes a big noise and sometimes even light bounces off it, right?

Well, scientists have found a way to make tiny bubbles in liquid and then bounce sound waves off them really hard. It's like a tiny bubble ball that we can't see bouncing around in the water.

When the sound waves bounce off the bubble, it makes it get really hot and really bright! The light comes from inside the bubble and happens so quickly that we call it "sonoluminescence".

Isn't that cool? Scientists are still trying to figure out exactly how it works and what types of light it makes, but it's a really interesting thing to watch!
