Sortition

Sortition is a way to pick people to do jobs like politicians or judges. Instead of using voting, the way it usually works, sortition picks people at random like a lottery. This means that a person’s race, gender, age, religion, or any other factor will not influence who gets picked. Sortition is like flipping a coin, except it involves lots of people.
