ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sound follower

Have you ever noticed that when you talk or sing into a microphone, the sound comes out of a big speaker for everyone to hear? That's because the microphone picked up the sound vibrations from your voice and turned them into electric signals. Those signals then travel through wires and get turned back into sound waves by the speaker.

A sound follower basically does the same thing, but it's a special kind of microphone that can pick up sounds from different directions. It's like having lots of little microphones all around, listening to everything that's happening.

Once the sound follower picks up a sound, it sends the signals to a computer or other device that can analyze the sounds and figure out where they're coming from. This can be really helpful for things like security systems, where you want to know if someone is moving around in a building after hours.

But sound followers can also be used for fun things, like making robots that can follow sound. The robot can use its sound follower to figure out where a person or noise is coming from, and then move in that direction.

So, sound followers are basically microphones that can pick up sounds from all around, and then figure out where the sounds are coming from so that they can be used for all sorts of cool things.
