ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

South West African banknote issuers

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen money? You know, those papers and coins that you use to buy things? Well, someone has to make them and decide how much they are worth. In South West Africa, which is now known as Namibia, there were a lot of different groups who made money. We call them banknote issuers.

Banknote issuers were like the bosses of money. They would create the designs and put their names on the money. Some banknote issuers were the government, which is like the people in charge of running the country. Others were private banks, which are like businesses that help people with their money.

Each banknote issuer had its own design and its own way of making money. They wanted people to use their money instead of someone else's. Some even made their money fancy with pretty colors and pictures.

But sometimes, these banknote issuers would stop making money or go out of business. Then, their money would become rare and valuable to collectors. People might pay a lot of money just to have a piece of history from that banknote issuer.

So, banknote issuers were like the kings of money, making all the decisions about what money looked like and how much it was worth. And now, their money is like a piece of treasure that people love to collect.
