Okay kiddo, let me explain what SpaceshipOne is. Have you ever seen a spaceship in books or on TV shows? SpaceshipOne is a real-life spaceship that was built by some really smart people to take people into space!
See, most planes and helicopters only fly in the air, but SpaceshipOne can fly all the way up to space where there is no air. It was built to fly up to 100 kilometers above the Earth's surface, where the sky is black and you can see the Earth from above.
The man who helped build SpaceshipOne wanted to make space travel safe and affordable for everyone. That means people like you and me could one day go to space too! SpaceshipOne is also special because it was the first-ever privately built spaceship to go into space, which is a really big deal!
