Special pleading

Special pleading is when someone tries to make an exception for themselves or something they are involved in without being able to explain why. It is like asking for something without giving a good reason as to why you should be given it. For example, let's say you are trying to persuade your mom to buy you a new toy. You might say "all my friends have a new toy and I should be able to have one too". Your mom might not think this is a good enough reason to buy you a toy, and this is an example of special pleading.
