Special senses
Special senses are like your superhero powers. You have five superhero powers that help you see, hear, taste, smell, and feel things. Yes, just like Superman who has his superhuman strength and X-Ray vision, and Spider-Man who can climb walls and shoot webs, you too have special abilities to explore the world around you.
Your eyes help you see things. They work like a camera, capturing the image of everything that you look at. The retina, which is the inner lining of the eye, helps process the image so you can see it clearly. When you shine a flashlight into a dark room, you can see beams of light that help you walk without bumping into things.
Your ears help you hear things. They work like microphones, capturing the sounds around you. The sound waves travel through the ear canal and hit the eardrum, which then sends a message to the brain signals what the sound is. When someone says "Hello," your ears are the ones who hear it.
Your taste buds help you taste things. They can sense the four primary tastes: bitter, sour, salty, and sweet. When you eat a sour candy, your taste buds tell your brain that it's sour, and when you eat a lollipop, they tell your brain that it's sweet.
