Hey kiddo, do you know how you're able to talk to me and say different words? Let me explain it to you like you're five!
Speech production is when we use our mouth, tongue, lips, and other parts of our body to make sounds that turn into words. It's like a puzzle!
First, we need to think of the words we want to say in our head. Then, our brain sends signals to our tongue, lips, and other parts of our mouth to make the right movements.
Our lungs also play a big role in speech production because they help us take in air which we use to make sounds. When we breathe out, the air passes over our vocal cords in our throat, which vibrate and create sound.
After that, the sounds travel through our mouth and nose where our tongue, lips, and teeth help shape them into words. This process is called articulation.
So, when we want to say "hello," for example, our brain tells our lungs to take in air, our vocal cords vibrate, and then our tongue, lips, and teeth help shape the sound into the word "hello" that we hear.
It takes a lot of practice and coordination between our brain and body to be able to speak clearly and correctly, but with practice, we can get better and better!
