Splice the mainbrace

"Splice the mainbrace" is a saying that comes from when people used to work on ships a long time ago. A ship is like a really big boat that travels across the ocean.

The "mainbrace" is a rope that holds up the big sail on the ship. It's a very important rope, because without it, the sail won't work and the ship won't be able to move.

"Splicing" means to tie two ropes together really carefully so they become one long rope. It's important to make sure the ropes are tied together really well so they don't come apart when the ship is moving around in the ocean.

So when somebody says "splice the mainbrace," it means to carefully tie the main rope that holds up the sail to make sure it's working properly and the ship can keep moving safely through the water.
