ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Split screen (filmmaking)

Split screen is when you divide a screen into two or more parts so you can show multiple things happening at the same time.

Imagine you're drawing a picture on one side of a piece of paper and your friend is drawing a picture on the other side. If you want to show both of your pictures at the same time, but you only have one piece of paper, you might split the paper in half and draw your picture on one side while your friend draws their picture on the other side. That's kind of what split screen is like!

In movies or TV shows, split screen can be used to show what's happening to different characters in different places at the exact same time. Maybe one character is driving a car on the left side of the screen, while another character is having a conversation on the right side of the screen. Sometimes, the screen can be divided into more than two parts, so you can see even more things happening at once!

Overall, split screen is a cool way to show multiple things happening at the same time, even if they are happening in different places.
