ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spontaneous process

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a ball on top of a slope? When you let the ball go, it will start rolling down the slope all by itself, without anyone pushing it. This is like a spontaneous process.

A spontaneous process is something that happens on its own without anyone making it happen. This means it doesn't need any help to occur or any outside force to keep it going.

For example, when you mix sugar and water together, the sugar will dissolve all by itself without you having to stir it. This is because the process is spontaneous.

Another example is when ice melts into water. You don't need to heat the ice to make it melt, it will melt by itself when it is at a higher temperature than its melting point. This is also a spontaneous process.

Basically, spontaneous processes happen naturally and easily without any help from outside sources or people.
