ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Spot reduction

Spot reduction is the idea that if you want to lose fat from a specific part of your body, you can do certain exercises or use special products that will make the fat disappear from that specific area. However, this is not really possible.

When you exercise, your body uses energy stored in fat cells all over your body, not just in one specific area. So, doing 100 sit-ups won’t necessarily make your belly fat disappear. Additionally, targeted exercises may help strengthen certain muscles, but they won’t necessarily make the fat on top of those muscles go away.

The best way to lose fat is to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Over time, your body will burn fat all over, including from the areas where you want to lose fat. So, instead of trying to target specific areas, focus on overall health and fitness.
