Stalagmite

Alright kiddo, do you know what a cave is? It's a big hole in the ground where it's really dark and damp, and there are usually rocks and stones inside. Now, have you ever seen a dripping tap in your house? Imagine that in the cave, there is a lot of water dripping from the roof.

As the water drips down, it carries tiny bits of rocks and minerals with it. Over time, these tiny bits accumulate on the ground where they dry out and harden, creating a cone-shaped structure. This is what we call a stalagmite.

Stalagmites grow really slowly, maybe just a few centimeters every hundred years! And because they're made of minerals, they're very strong and can last for thousands of years. So next time you go to a cave, keep an eye out for these cool cone shapes on the ground!
