Standard diving dress

Have you ever seen a scuba diver before? They wear big suits and masks to help them breathe underwater. But before scuba diving was invented, people had to wear something called a standard diving dress to explore the deep parts of the ocean.

The standard diving dress is like a big suit made out of heavy metal and rubber. It's very heavy and hard to move around in, but it keeps the diver safe underwater. The suit has a helmet attached to it that covers the diver's head and has a window to see through. The helmet also has an air hose that goes up to a boat or ship on the surface of the water, so the diver can breathe fresh air.

To get ready for a dive, the diver puts on the suit and helmet and climbs down a ladder into the water. They make their way to the ocean floor, kind of like walking on the moon! The big suit helps the diver stay warm and keeps water from getting inside. Even though it's heavy and they can't move very quickly, the diver can see lots of cool things under the water that they might not be able to see otherwise.

When it's time to come back up to the surface, the diver signals to the boat by pulling on a rope attached to a bell on their suit. The boat will then start to pump air into the suit to help the diver float back up to the surface safely.

So that's how a standard diving dress works! It keeps the diver safe and helps them explore underwater with a big heavy suit and a helmet that lets them breathe fresh air.
