ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

State immunity

"State immunity" is like a super power that some countries have. It means that the country cannot be sued or punished in court by another country or person.

Think of it like a superhero who has special powers that make them untouchable. For example, if someone tries to punch them, they won't get hurt because they have an invisible shield protecting them. That's what state immunity is like for a country.

This means that if one country wants to sue another country for something, like for breaking a trade agreement or for causing harm to their citizens, they might not be able to because of state immunity.

However, just like with superheroes, there are some limitations to state immunity. For example, if a country commits a crime against humanity, like genocide or torture, they can still be held accountable even with state immunity.
