ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

State university

A state university is a place where people can go to learn new things and get an education. It's like a big school with lots of different classrooms, buildings, and teachers.

The government of a state, which is like a big group of leaders who make decisions for the state, helps to pay for the state university. This means that people who live in the state pay taxes to help fund the university.

Anyone who wants to attend the state university can apply and if they are accepted, they will have to pay money to go there. However, the amount of money they have to pay may be less if they live in the same state where the university is located. This is because people who live in the state have already paid some money to help fund the university through their taxes.

State universities offer many different types of courses and degrees so that people can choose to study what they are interested in. People can study things like science, math, writing, or even art. There are also lots of clubs and activities at state universities, so people can meet new friends and have fun while they are learning.
