State-assisted suicide

You know how sometimes when our pets get sick and they are in pain, the vet helps them by putting them to sleep so they don't hurt anymore?

Well, sometimes people get really sick or hurt too, and they are in so much pain that they don't want to live anymore. And some people think that it's okay to help those people too by giving them a way to die without feeling any pain.

When the government helps these people, it's called state-assisted suicide. This means that the government and doctors work together to make sure that the person can die peacefully and without any pain.
