ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Statics

Statics is a big word that means we want to understand how things that are not moving stay in place.

Let's pretend you are building a tower of blocks. If you put one block on top of another, you would notice that the top block can fall down. But if you add more blocks to your tower, you will create something called stability. Stability is just a fancy way of saying that your tower is safe and won't fall down.

But there are some things you have to think about when you build your tower. You have to make sure that the blocks on the bottom are strong enough to hold the blocks on top, and you have to make sure that they are in the right place or position. Just like how a puzzle piece fits in a certain spot, each block in your tower has to fit in the right place to ensure that the tower is strong and secure.

Statics is all about figuring out how to keep things still and safe. Maybe you're trying to build a bridge or a house or a car, and you need to make sure that everything is stable so that it doesn't collapse. To do that, you have to think like a puzzle-master and make sure that you are putting everything in the right place so that it stays still.

So, statics is like making a big puzzle, and you have to use your brain to make sure everything fits perfectly and stays still.
