ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stative verb

A stative verb is a word that shows a state or condition of something, rather than an action that is happening. It is like saying how something is, rather than what it is doing.

For example, the verb "to like" is a stative verb because it describes a feeling or a state of mind. It doesn't show a physical action like running or jumping. If you say "I like ice cream," it means that you feel happy or enjoy eating ice cream without physically doing anything.

Another example of a stative verb is "to be". This verb is used to show a state or condition of something. For instance, "I am happy" shows a state of my mood, without doing any action.

So, a stative verb tells us about something's state or condition instead of an action it is performing.
