Steam cracking

Steam cracking is like playing LEGO blocks with plastic. Just like how we can build different things with LEGO blocks, we can create different types of chemicals with plastic in a process called steam cracking.

In steam cracking, big pieces of plastic (called hydrocarbons) are heated up until they turn into gas. This gas is then mixed with steam and heated up again, and then it breaks apart into smaller pieces.

Just like how we can make different creations with different color LEGO blocks, we can make different chemicals by using different types of hydrocarbons and adjusting the temperature and pressure during the steam cracking process. These chemicals can be used to make all sorts of things, like plastic bottles, car parts, and even medicines.

Overall, steam cracking is like a way to break down plastic into smaller pieces and then use those pieces to make other useful things.
