ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Steamship

A steamship is a big boat that uses steam power to move through the water. Steam power is made by heating up water until it turns into steam, which is like a hot gas. The steam then pushes against special parts inside the engine, making them move and turn the propellers that push the ship forward.

Just like how blowing air into a balloon makes it move, the steam pushes against the parts inside the engine, making the boat go forward. Steamships were really important in the past because they allowed people to travel and transport goods across the ocean much faster than before. Nowadays, most ships run on other types of fuel, like oil or electricity, but steamships paved the way for many advances in transportation and engineering.
