Stobie pole

Hey there kiddo! So, have you ever seen those funny-looking poles with two arms sticking out that hold up power lines and streetlights? They're called Stobie Poles! They might look strange, but they are really important for keeping our streets lit up and our electricity flowing.

Now, a Stobie Pole is made of two basic parts: a concrete "core" and two arms that stick out on either side. The concrete is poured into a mold while a metal reinforcement cage inside it is set up. That helps make the pole really strong so it can hold up all the heavy wires above it. Once the concrete has hardened, the poles are painted with a special coating to protect them from getting damaged, but I bet they don't have fun colors like your crayons, do they?

Now, why are these poles so special? The arms that stick out on either side of the pole can hold different things, like power lines and streetlights. That way, there's no need to install a separate pole for every light or power line – it’s all in one place! That makes them very useful in urban areas where there isn't a lot of space for multiple poles. Fun fact: Stobie Poles are actually named after the Australian who invented them, so they're pretty famous and important!

So, now you know all about these special poles that hold up our lights and wires, and keep our streets safe and bright! Think of them like a superhero team – each Stobie Pole has its own job, but together they work to keep our city strong and shiny!
