ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stock

A stock is something like a piece of a company. It’s like a share of that company. Say you have a pizza shop and wanted to take your pizza business to the next level, but you needed help. You could give people the chance to buy some of your pizza shop, like one slice. That slice would be called a share, or a stock— and if you did this with lots of people, they would all own a part of your company and be able to help it grow. That’s what stocks are— they’re pieces of a company that people can buy to help the company grow.
