ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Store and forward

Store and forward is when you need to send a message or piece of information from one place to another, but you can't do it all at once. So you break it up into smaller pieces and send them one by one.

Imagine you're sending a picture to your friend who lives far away. Instead of sending the whole picture at once, you divide it into smaller pixels (tiny squares that make up the picture). You send each pixel separately and your friend's computer puts them all together to make the complete picture.

Another example is if you're sending an email. Sometimes the email is too big to send all at once, so it gets split into smaller parts, called packets. These packets are sent one by one and then reassembled by the recipient's computer to make the complete email.

In store and forward, the message or information is stored temporarily in between sending each piece so that it can be checked for errors, and to make sure it was received before sending the next piece. This way, if one piece goes missing or gets damaged during transmission, it can be resent without having to start all over again.

Overall, store and forward is a way of sending messages or information in smaller parts to make sure they get to their destination safely and completely.
