ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Stratified space

Have you ever played with blocks before? Imagine that you have a big pile of blocks that are all different sizes and shapes. Now, imagine that you start sorting these blocks into groups based on how big they are. You put all the small blocks in one group, all the medium-sized blocks in another group, and all the big blocks in a third group.

This is kind of like what a stratified space is, except instead of blocks, we're talking about spaces or shapes. A stratified space is a space that has been divided up into different levels, or "strata," based on certain qualities that the space has.

For example, let's say we're looking at a park. The park might have a playground, a basketball court, and a grassy field. These are all different parts of the park that serve different purposes. We can think of them as different strata within the park.

In a stratified space, each stratum has its own unique properties and characteristics. In our park example, the playground might have swings and slides, the basketball court might have hoops and lines for playing different games, and the grassy field might have picnic tables and space for running around.

So, a stratified space is basically just a space that has been divided up into different parts based on what those parts are used for or what their properties are. It's like sorting a pile of blocks into different groups based on size and shape, but with spaces instead.
