ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Structural collapse

Structural collapse is when a building or other structure falls down or breaks apart. Think of it like a giant puzzle, where all the pieces fit together to make a house or a bridge or a tower. If one of those puzzle pieces breaks or gets taken away, the whole thing can come crashing down.

There are lots of reasons why a structure might collapse. Sometimes it's because of natural disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes, but other times it's because the people who built the structure didn't do a very good job. They might have used weak materials or made mistakes in the construction process that weakened the building.

Structural collapse can be very dangerous for the people who are inside or around the building. That's why it's important to make sure buildings are built safely and to pay attention to warning signs that might indicate a structure is about to collapse.
