ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Styles of wrestling

Hey kiddo, do you like wrestling? There are different styles of wrestling, just like there are different flavors of ice cream! Let me tell you all about them!

First, there's freestyle wrestling. It's like when you and your friend wrestle on the ground, but with rules. The goal is to pin your opponent's shoulders to the mat for three seconds. You can use your arms, legs, and body to take your opponent down and try to pin them. In this style, you can also score points for takedowns and moves.

Then there's Greco-Roman wrestling. It's like freestyle, but you can only use your arms to take down your opponent. You can't use your legs at all! The goal is still to pin your opponent's shoulders to the mat.

Next up is folkstyle wrestling, which is the kind of wrestling you might see in school. It's similar to freestyle, but there are some different rules. You can also score points for controlling your opponent on the mat, not just for takedowns and moves.

Finally, there's sumo wrestling, which is like a big, bouncy version of wrestling. The goal is to push your opponent out of a circle or make them touch the ground with any part of their body other than their feet.

So, there you have it, kiddo! Different styles of wrestling have different rules and techniques, but they all involve grappling with your opponent to try to come out on top!
