Sucker pole

Okay, so imagine you have a really big lollipop and you want to stick it to the ground so it doesn't blow away. A sucker pole is kind of like that, but instead of a lollipop, it's a big metal pole with a flat base that you stick into the ground. The base is called a "sucker pad" because it uses suction to hold onto the ground and keep the pole from moving around.

People use sucker poles for all sorts of things. They might use them to hold up a tent or canopy, to set up a volleyball net, or even to secure a sign. Sucker poles are really handy because they don't require any special tools to set up or take down - you just stick them in the ground and they're ready to go!
