ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sumer

Sumer was a really long time ago, even before your great-grandparents' grandparents' grandparents were alive. It was a place where people lived a really long time ago, a place called Mesopotamia, which is now the country of Iraq.

The people who lived in Sumer were called Sumerians, and they had a very different way of life than we do now. They didn't have TVs, computers, or cell phones like we do today. Instead, they had to make everything they needed by hand, like pots to cook food in, clothes to wear, and even the houses they lived in.

The Sumerians were very good at growing crops, like wheat and barley. They built irrigation systems to water their crops, which helped them grow big and strong. They also had a system of writing called cuneiform, which used pictures to represent words and ideas.

The Sumerians were also very religious, and they believed in many gods and goddesses. They built big temples to honor their gods and made sacrifices to them. They thought the gods controlled everything from the weather to the crops they grew, so it was really important to keep them happy.

Overall, Sumer was a really interesting place to live a long time ago, and the Sumerians were very clever and creative in figuring out how to survive in their world.
