Summary statistics are a way of showing information about data in a simple and easy-to-understand way. For example, if we have data about the weight of 10 different people, we might want to find out the average weight of the group. We could add up the weights of all 10 people and divide by 10 to find the average weight. That would be a summary statistic - it tells us one number that summarizes all of the data. Summary statistics can also include things like the highest number in a group, the lowest number, or how spread out the numbers are from each other.
