ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Supercooling

Supercooling is when a liquid becomes colder than its normal freezing temperature without turning into a solid. Most of the time, liquids freeze when the temperature around them gets cold enough. But with supercooling, the liquid can stay a liquid even when the temperatures drop below the freezing point. This happens because the liquid doesn't have anything like dust or dirt to help it turn into a solid, so the molecules can remain as a liquid until it gets cold enough for them to start freezing on their own.
