ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Superluminal communication

Superluminal communication refers to communication that travels faster than the speed of light. This is not possible according to the laws of physics that govern our universe. The speed of light is considered to be the "speed limit" of the universe. Nothing can travel faster than that speed.

Imagine you are playing a game with your friends and you have to pass on a message to someone who is far away. You decide to use a phone to pass on the message. It takes time for the sound waves to travel from your mouth to the phone, and then from the phone to the ear of the person on the other end. This time is called the "latency" of the communication. The latency can be very short or very long, depending on the distance between the two people and how fast the sound waves travel through the air.

Now, imagine you have a magic wand that can instantly transport your message to the other person without any latency. This would be superluminal communication because the message is being transmitted faster than the speed of light. However, this magic wand doesn't exist in real life (at least not yet!).

Scientists have tried to find ways to send messages faster than the speed of light, but they have not been successful. Some have proposed using "wormholes" or shortcuts through space-time to send information faster. However, these ideas are still in the realm of science fiction and have not been proven to work in reality.

In summary, superluminal communication is communication that travels faster than the speed of light. However, this is not possible in the universe we live in, according to the laws of physics.
