Surau

A surau is a special place where Muslims come to pray and worship Allah. It's kind of like a mosque, but smaller and more informal. Surau are usually found in Malay communities, especially in Malaysia and Indonesia. They can be a small building or just a room in someone's house.

When you go to a surau, you take off your shoes and enter a prayer room. This room can be decorated with beautiful carpets, paintings or calligraphy. People sit on the floor and face towards Mecca, which is the direction of the holy city of Islam. Muslims pray five times a day, and often go to the surau for these prayers.

Surau are not just for prayer, they're also a place where people can come together for community events and religious gatherings. It's a space to learn more about Islam and to share stories and experiences.

Surau are very important in Muslim culture because they provide a safe and comfortable place to worship and connect with others who share the same faith. It's a place that brings together people from all backgrounds and is a symbol of peace and unity in the Muslim community.
