ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Susan R. Barry

Susan R. Barry is a really smart lady who studied how our eyes work so we can see things. She found out that sometimes our eyes don't work the way they're supposed to, which can make it hard to see things clearly. This is called a visual impairment. But Susan discovered that people who have visual impairments can actually learn to see better with practice and training!

She also wrote a book about her own experience growing up with a visual impairment and not being able to see things in 3D. But later in life, she was able to retrain her eyes and see things in 3D for the first time! It was kind of like a magic trick, but it was really just her brain learning how to use her eyes better.

So, Susan R. Barry is a scientist who is helping us understand how our eyes work and how we can improve our vision even if we have a visual impairment. And she's also an inspiring person who proved that it's never too late to learn something new and amazing!
