ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Symmetric group

The symmetric group is like a special family made up of shapes and figures. It's a group of different shapes and patterns, like circles, squares, triangles, and stars, that can all be made to fit together in different ways. For example, look at this picture of the symmetric group. It has a circle, a square, a triangle, and a star all in one.

You can move the shapes around in different ways, but they always fit together in the same pattern. That's what makes them a symmetric group. It's like they all have the same rules they follow, and when you move them around they stay the same.
