ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Syngas

Syngas is like a magic potion that is made when you mix different things together. Imagine you have a toy box filled with different toys, like blocks, cars, and stuffed animals. Now, imagine you mix them all up in a big bowl. This is kind of what happens with syngas - different things are mixed together to make something new.

The things that are mixed together to make syngas are called feedstocks. Feedstocks can be things like coal, natural gas, biomass (like wood or plants), or even garbage. When we mix two or more feedstocks together, we get syngas.

Syngas is a bit like a combination of different gases, kind of like when you mix different colors of paint together. In syngas, we usually have two main gases: hydrogen and carbon monoxide. There might also be some other gases mixed in, depending on what feedstocks were used.

Now, you might be wondering what we do with syngas. Well, because it's made up of different gases, it can actually be used to make lots of different things! For example, we can use syngas as a fuel for power plants instead of using coal. We can also turn syngas into different chemicals that we use in everyday life, like plastics, fertilizers, or even medicine!

So, while the idea of syngas might seem complicated at first, it's really just a mixture of different things that we can use to make lots of other useful things.
