ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

TV transmitter

Let's say you have a toy car and you want your friend to see it too. But your friend is far away and can't come to your house to see the toy car. So, what can you do to show your friend the car? You can take a photo of the toy car and send it to your friend's phone. This way, your friend can see the toy car even if they are not with you.

In the same way, when we watch TV, we are seeing things that are happening far away from us. TV transmitters are like the camera that takes pictures of the toy car, but instead of a toy car, a TV transmitter takes pictures of television programs that are happening in a studio or at a game or event. The TV transmitter then sends those pictures through the air to our TVs so that we can see what is happening on the other side of the world without being there.

The TV transmitter sends the pictures through the air in the form of electromagnetic waves, which are like invisible energy beams that fly through the air. These waves are picked up by our TV antennas, which then send the signals to our TV sets.

So, in short, a TV transmitter is like a super-advanced camera that takes pictures of TV programs and sends them through the air as electromagnetic waves to our TV antennas so that we can watch TV shows on our TVs without being at the event or studio itself.
