Tabby's Star

Tabby's Star is a very special star named after its discoverer, Tabetha Boyajian. It is located in a faraway star system called KIC 8462852 which is about 1,470 light-years away from us here on Earth. The star appears to have strangely dimmed and brightened many times since it was discovered in 2015. Scientists are still trying to figure out what is causing this. Some think it could be due to something blocking the light from the star, like a huge cloud or pieces of rock or dust. Others think there could be a huge planet orbiting the star, because the dimming would be caused by the planet blocking some light from the star when it passes in front of it. Whatever the cause, nobody knows for sure yet!
