Takotsubo cardiomyopathy

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (or "broken heart syndrome") is when someone's heart feels really sad or stressed out and starts to act in a strange way. It's like when you get really scared and your heart beats really fast, except this lasts for longer and can cause more serious problems.

Scientists think that people with takotsubo cardiomyopathy have too much stress hormones in their bodies that can actually damage their heart muscles. This can make the heart stop pumping blood correctly, which can lead to chest pain, trouble breathing, and even a heart attack.

Doctors can try to treat takotsubo cardiomyopathy with medicine and other therapies, but it can take time for the heart to heal. Sometimes the heart can recover completely, but other times there may be lasting damage. It's important to take care of your heart and manage stress to help prevent this condition.
