ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tally (voting)

Imagine you and your five friends want to decide which game to play at recess. You each have a different game in mind and you need to figure out which one everyone wants to play.

To decide, you could take turns saying which game you want to play and someone could keep track of how many votes each game gets. This is called a tally.

So, let's say your friends vote like this:

- Two for kickball
- One for Four Square
- One for Red Rover
- One for hopscotch

You count up the votes and find that kickball won because it got the most votes.

Tallying is a way to count votes or keep track of scores in a game. It helps us see which choice is most popular when there are different options.

This is the same way that grown-ups use tallies to count votes during elections. They use special machines or paper ballots to keep track of how many people voted for each candidate. Then they add up the tallies to see who got the most votes and that person wins the election.
