Tammany Hall was a political organization in New York City from the late 1700s to the mid 1900s. It was named for a Native American leader named Tammany. Tammany Hall was made up of people who wanted to influence how the city was run. These people, called “bosses”, made deals with the politicians and gave them money and support to get elected. They would also create jobs for people and make sure that people of their own political party got those jobs. The bosses also made sure their own people got certain privileges. They were able to control the city and get what they wanted.
