ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Taurus (constellation)

Imagine looking up at the sky at night and seeing a lot of tiny shiny lights that look like stars. Some people thousands of years ago saw these shiny lights in the sky and they noticed that some of them kind of looked like different animals or objects. One of these groups of stars that they saw looked like a bull, so they named it Taurus.

Taurus is a group of stars that are all close together and make a shape that looks like a bull's head and horns. The brightest star in Taurus is called Aldebaran and it is supposed to be the bull's eye.

The Taurus constellation is part of a bigger picture called the zodiac. The zodiac is a group of constellations that line up with the sun's path throughout the year, and it is used to make horoscopes or predictions about what will happen in someone's life based on the position of the stars when they were born.

Taurus is also an important constellation in many different cultures around the world. In ancient Greek mythology, Taurus is associated with the story of Zeus and Europa, and in ancient Egyptian mythology, Taurus is seen as a symbol of strength and fertility.

So the next time you look up at the sky at night, try to find Taurus and see if you can see the bull's head and horns. It's a fun way to learn about the stars and the stories people have told about them for thousands of years.
