Tejuino

Tejuino is a special drink that comes from Mexico. It is made with a type of corn called maize that has been cooked and fermented. When the corn is cooked, it becomes soft and mushy. Then, people add water and other special ingredients to it, like sugar and lime juice. They stir it all up really well, and let it sit for a while so that it can ferment. Fermentation is when tiny things called yeast or bacteria eat the sugar and change it into something else, which gives the tejuino a special taste.

When the tejuino is ready, it is strained so that all the bits of corn are taken out. Then, it is served in a big cup with lots of ice. Sometimes people add a little bit of salt or chili powder to it, which makes it taste even better. Tejuino is a very refreshing drink that is perfect for hot days, and it can be found in many places in Mexico, like street markets and food stands. Yum!
