ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Television encryption

Television encryption is the process of taking a signal (like a TV show) and scrambling it so that only certain people with the right equipment can watch it. Basically, it's like locking a door: you can't get in to the TV show unless you have the special key (the decoder, or special box/subscription to unscramble the signal). It's also like having a password for a website; you can't look at a website without knowing the correct password. The same is true of a scrambled TV signal.
