Okay kiddo, have you ever sent a text message or an email? Telex is kinda like that but it was used long long time ago before we had smartphones or laptops. It’s a way of sending messages or information from one place to another using a special machine called teletype.
To send a message, you have to first type it in to the teletype machine (imagine typing on a big keyboard). The machine then turns the letters into a code that other machines can understand. It sends the coded message over a wire - kinda like the internet cables we use now - to another machine at the destination.
At the receiving end, the machine decodes the message and prints it out onto a piece of paper. Imagine getting a letter from a friend but instead of having to read it yourself, you have a machine do it for you!
This was a really important way of communicating when phones, email and even fax machines did not exist. People could send important business or personal messages across long distances quickly and efficiently. It helped connect people and businesses all around the world.
