ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tenement (law)

A tenement is like a big building that has a lot of small apartments or rooms inside. Imagine a really big house where a bunch of people live!

Now, there are laws that help make sure that people who live in these tenements are safe and healthy. For example, the government might make sure that the building has stairs and elevators that work, that there are no bugs or mice, and that there are enough windows for fresh air and sunlight to come in. These laws are important to make sure that people have a good place to live and don't get sick or hurt in their homes.
