ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tensairity

Okay kiddo, do you know what a tent is? It's like a little house made out of fabric that you can put up outside when you go camping. Now, imagine if we made a tent but instead of using just fabric, we also used really strong rods made out of a special material called carbon fiber. These rods can be bent and shaped into different forms.

Tensairity is when we combine these strong carbon fiber rods with cables (which are like really strong strings) and fabric to make really cool structures. It's like building with Legos, but instead of blocks we use rods, cables and fabric.

The name tensairity comes from two words: "tension" which means pulling something tight, and "air" which means the space around us. Tensairity is all about using tension and air to make strong and lightweight structures.

Sometimes, tensairity structures can look like giant domes (like a big igloo) or bridges (like the Golden Gate Bridge). They are used for lots of different things, like in sports stadiums, museums and even on some buildings. It's a really cool way to build things that are both strong and beautiful.
