Tensile testing

Tensile testing is like when you stretch a rubber band to see how strong it is. You can use a machine to pull on the rubber band and measure how far it stretches and how much force it takes to stretch it.

Scientists use a similar machine called a tensile testing machine to test the strength of different materials like metals, plastics, and fabrics. They put a sample of the material in the machine, and then the machine pulls on it until it breaks.

While the machine is pulling on the material, it measures the force it takes to stretch the material and how much the material stretches before it breaks. This helps scientists understand how strong and stretchy the material is, which they can use to design things like buildings, bridges, and cars.
