ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ternary signal

Imagine you and your friend want to send secret messages to each other, but you only have two colors of flags to use: red and green. However, you both have a new idea to use a third color, yellow, to make your messages even more secret. This new way of using three colors is called a "ternary signal" because it involves three different options instead of just two.

In electronics, a ternary signal is similar. Instead of having only two options (like on and off), a ternary signal has three possible options. It's like having three buttons to press instead of just two. These three options can be represented in different ways, like with three different voltage levels or three different frequencies. This allows for more complex and efficient communication between electronic devices.

So, just like how using three colors can make your secret messages with your friend even more secretive, using a ternary signal in electronics can make communication more advanced and efficient.
