ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Tesla's Egg of Columbus

Alright kiddo, do you know what an egg is? It's a yummy food that comes from chickens, right? Well, a long time ago, there was a famous explorer named Christopher Columbus who sailed across the ocean to find new lands. And one day, he was challenged by some people who said it was easy to make an egg stand up on its end.

So Columbus took an egg and tried to make it stand up, but he couldn't do it. He tried and tried, but the egg just kept wobbling and falling over. Then, he had an idea. He took the egg and smashed its bottom gently, just enough to make it flat. And then, he was able to stand the egg up on a table!

People were amazed and asked him how he figured it out. Columbus replied, "It was easy! Anyone can do it, they just need to know how." And that's how the phrase "Columbus' Egg" was born, meaning a simple solution to a difficult problem.

Now, fast forward to today and a man named Elon Musk who started a company called Tesla. They are famous for making fancy electric cars and trying to find new ways to make them better. But one big challenge they faced was how to make the batteries last longer and charge faster.

So, Elon Musk had an idea just like Columbus did with the egg. He decided to stack the battery cells in a way that would make them more efficient and take up less space. And just like Columbus, he made it seem easy and called it the "Egg of Columbus."

Thanks for listening, kiddo!
